Mizzou Golf to Compete at Patriot Intercollegiate

Sept. 24, 2014

Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Golf is set to compete in its second tournament in as many weekends as it travels to Lorton, Va., to participate in the Patriot Intercollegiate, Sept. 28-29.

Hosted by George Mason University, the Patriot Intercollegiate takes place on the 7,010 yard, par-71 course at Laurel Hill Golf Club. Teams competing include Binghamton, Delaware, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Washington, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, James Madison, LaSalle, Longwood, Marshall, Seton Hall, St. Joes, St. Thomas Aquinas, Villanova and Wagner.

The Tigers did not participate in the event last season, but won the team title by 24 strokes in 2012-13. Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero finished in first and second to lead Missouri to its third consecutive victory that year. Every Mizzou golfer finished within the top 15 at the event.

Ryan Zech will once again lead the Tigers in competition. As a sophomore, Zech took eighth at the Patriot Intercollegiate carding a 1-over-par 214. The senior earned his 20th career top-20 finish at the Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup last week.

Sophomore Euan Walker follows Zech in the lineup. After a successful freshman campaign, the native of Troon, Scotland, opened the season by tying for fourth at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate.

Sundvold has become a regular starter on the Tiger squad and posted Missouri's second-best score at the Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup last week. The redshirt junior also tied for fourth at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate and will look to continue his early-season success at the Patriot Intercollegiate.

Redshirt sophomore Jacob Fair will be making his second start and third appearance for the Tigers. Like Zech, Fair also competed in the Patriot All-America Collegiate in 2012. As a freshman, Fair tied for 14th, one-of-five top-25 finishes during his rookie campaign.

Rounding out the lineup is Luigi Botta. Botta played well at the season-opening Turning Stone Intercollegiate, tying for 17th in his Tiger debut.

The tournament begins with 36 holes of shotgun play beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT Sunday.
