Sept. 18, 2014
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior offensive lineman Mitch Morse (Austin, Texas) has been selected as a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award® in college football. The Tiger co-captain has made 28 starts over the last three seasons at both right tackle and left tackle, and already holds his degree from the University of Missouri.
Morse finished his undergraduate work at Mizzou with a 3.61 grade point average in hospitality management. He is a graduate student for the 2014 season, studying in the university's renowned Positive Coaching program.
Involvement with the community is a key component of the award, and Morse has done his part around Columbia. Notably, Morse has volunteered his time at the children's hospital, food bank and is involved with Mizzou's Men4Men program, which is a program to help teach young men the proper way to handle themselves in many social and personal situations.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates can be found here.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.
