COLUMBIA, Mo. - For the third consecutive year, Mizzou tennis will begin their season with the Mizzou Invite at The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. The three day event will take place Friday, Sept. 19 - Sunday, Sept. 21. Admission to the Mizzou Invite is free throughout the weekend.

At last year's Mizzou Invite, the Tigers claimed two doubles and three singles titles against competition from Oklahoma State, Princeton and Nebraska. In doubles play, Rachel Stuhlmann and Tracy Dong at No. 3 and Alex Clark and Madison Rhyner at No. 4 each tallied titles. In singles competition, Kelli Hine (No. 4), Clark (No. 5) and Cassidy Spearman (No. 6) all took home championship crowns at The Plaza Tennis Center.

At No. 1 doubles last year, Gaytan-Leach and Stuhlman shined for Mizzou and produced a .500 (8-8) record. The next top Tigers duo was Hine and Spearman at No. 3 doubles, as they finished with an impressive 3-1 record to close out the 2013-14 season.

Last April 16-20, the new Mizzou Tennis Center hosted the 2014 SEC Women's Tennis Championship. In the first round of competition, Mizzou came away with a 4-0 sweep over No. 12 seed Arkansas Razorbacks and it marked the program's first SEC Championship victory. The next day however, the Tigers fell to No. 8 seed Texas A&M in the tournament and saw their 2013-14 season come to an end.

Mizzou brings back four letter winners from last year's squad (Clark, Hine, Rhyner, and Spearman), while welcoming three newcomers in Brianna Lashway, Beatriz Machado Santos and Brittany Lashway. Brittany joins Mizzou after playing for Syracuse University in 2012-13, and Santos comes to Columbia, Mo. from Texas Tech University. 2014-15 will mark Brianna Lashway's first collegiate tennis campaign.
