Rogers closes play at U.S. Women's Amateur

Glen Cove, N.Y. - Mizzou women's golfer Alina Rogers closed play at the U.S. Women's Amateur on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Mizzou senior shot 6-over par in the second round of play to finish 11-over par after two rounds. The championship is being played at the Par 70, 6297-yard course at Nassau Country Club. Rogers finished in a tie for 91st overall.

The Match Play round begins tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 6 with the top 64 players making the cut. The field will be reduced to 32 and again to 16 competitors on Thursday. The championship match will take place Sunday, Aug. 10.

The U.S. Women's Amateur is comprised of stiff competition as thirteen players are ranked among the top 25 of the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings. In addition, nine competitors have won USGA championship titles in their careers.

Hosted by Nassau Country Club, the event runs through Aug. 10 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer. There are 15 countries represented at the championship, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the People's Republic of China, Colombia, England, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and the United States of America.

Mizzou Women's Golf begins its season in September, kicking things off at the Chip-N Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 8.
