Zech Qualifies For Third Consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship

July 8, 2014

Mizzou senior golf standout and 2014 All-American Ryan Zech qualified for the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship after winning a qualifying event at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City on Tuesday.

A star for the Tigers during his junior season, which included a Top 10 individual finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships, Zech won the two-round tournament, finishing 2-under-par. Zech was one shot better than Arkansas' Zach Coats (-1).

Both Zech and Coats will compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship (Aug. 11-17) at the Atlanta Athletic Club's Highlands Course in Johns Creek, Ga. It's the third time Zech has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship. He shot 135 over two rounds at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City to win that qualifying event in 2013 after finishing second on the same course in 2012.

Last season Zech earned honorable mention All-America honors from PING Golf. He also helped the Tigers finish third at the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional Championship and advance to the NCAA Finals in Hutchinson, Kan.
