Columbia, Mo. - - Mizzou freshman Jess Meek received academic recognition on Friday, July 11, as the she was named to the 2014 SEC First Year Honor Roll as announced by commissioner Mike Slive and the league office. Grades from the 2013-14 academic year are used to determine the members of the honor roll, and the award is the first for Meek.
The Carnoustie, Scotland, native is studying Sport Management at Mizzou while also excelling on the links. Meek finished among the top ten at the 2014 SEC Championships, marking the first top-10 finish in the conference championship for a Tiger since 2011. She also finished her first collegiate season with a Mizzou Freshman Record stroke average of 76.
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
