Mizzou Announces Tentative 2014 Soccer Schedule

Tentative 2014 Schedule

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Head Coach Bryan Blitz and the Missouri soccer team announced its tentative 2014 schedule, which is highlighted by four nationally televised contests and matchups with six teams that qualified in last season's NCAA Tournament. The slate also features nine home contests and three teams that finished in the NSCAA/adidas National Top 25 in 2013.

The Tigers will have four games televised nationally, with a Southeastern Conference best two on ESPNU and two on the new SEC Network. Additionally, all matches in the SEC Tournament will be televised live, with the SEC Network carrying the first round, quarterfinals and semifinal contests and ESPNU airing the championship match.

Non-Conference Schedule 
After exhibition contest at 22-time National Champion North Carolina on Friday, Aug. 15, the Tigers officially open the 2014 season in University Park, Pa., at the Penn State Invitational the next weekend. Missouri opens the tournament on Friday, Aug. 22 against Syracuse before facing West Virginia on Sunday, Aug. 24.  

The Mountaineers claimed both the Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament titles before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and finished the season 16-4-3. The Orange went 7-11-1 in their first season in the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference last season. Missouri has never faced either squad.

The Tigers then travel to Dallas, Texas, for two matches the following weekend. Missouri plays at TCU on Friday, Aug. 29, and then faces SMU on Sunday, Aug. 31. The Tigers are 2-0 all-time against TCU and have never faced SMU in the regular season. The Tigers and Mustangs faced off in an exhibition contest last season, with Mizzou picking up a 3-2 win.

After two straight weekends on the road, Mizzou returns to Walton Stadium to kickoff a five-match home stand on Sept. 5 against Northwestern. The Tigers also host UT Martin on Sunday, Sept. 7, Montana on Friday, Sept. 12 and Cal State Northridge Sunday, Sept. 14. 

SEC Schedule
Missouri opens its 11-match SEC schedule and concluded its home stand on Friday, Sept. 19 at home against the LSU Tigers. LSU leads the all-time series 2-0, with both matchups since Mizzou entered the SEC.

The Tigers then hit the road to face a pair of 2013 NCAA Tournament participants in South Carolina (Friday, Sept. 26) and Florida (Sunday, Sept. 28). ESPNU will televise the match against the Gators for the second year in a row, with Missouri recording a 1-0 upset of No. 7 Florida at Walton Stadium. Mizzou also knocked off No. 7 South Carolina, 2-1, at home in 2013 and own a 2-0 all-time mark against the Gamecocks.

Missouri makes its official debut on the SEC Network on Thursday, Oct. 2 as the squad hosts Kentucky at Walton Stadium. The team closes out the weekend with a home match against Vanderbilt on Sunday, Oct. 5. Tigers are 3-1-1 all-time against the Wildcats, including a 3-0 record with two overtime wins the last two seasons, and 2-0-2 against the Commodores.

On Friday, Oct. 10 Mizzou travels to Auburn, Ala., for a matchup against Auburn, the squad's only match of the weekend. Missouri owns a 3-0-1 record against Auburn and is 1-0-1 against the team since 2012.

The following weekend the Tigers head to Athens, Ga., to face Georgia on Friday, Oct. 17 before returning home to host Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 19. The all-time series with the Bulldogs is tied 1-1, while Mizzou has a 1-0 edge against the Crimson Tide.

The Tigers close out the road portion of its schedule with matches at Ole Miss (Friday, Oct. 24) and Tennessee (Sunday, Oct. 26), a match that will air live on ESPNU. The Rebels hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series, while the Lady Vols have a 1-0-1 edge.

Mizzou concludes the regular season at home on Thursday, Oct. 30 against Arkansas in a game televised on the SEC Network.
