June 24, 2014

Carly Kan led team USA in points and aces in the first match of the tour.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The summer of 2014 for Mizzou volleyball will be remembered as the Red, White and Blue summer as plenty of Tigers will be donning the nation's colors. Former setter Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) has already claimed the Silver Medal at the Pan American Games with the US National Team and now it is time for the current Tigers to leave their mark with USA Volleyball. First up is sophomore All-American Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) who is currently touring China with the Collegiate National Team. Through three matches, Kan is hitting .322 while averaging 2.45 kills per set, playing all six rotations for head coach Mark Rosen (Michigan's head coach).

In the team's first match against Guoquing Nvpai, Kan led the team with a team-high 19 points in a 3-1 win. She tallied 12 kills on just 24 attempts, hitting .375 in the match. She also tallied an eye-popping seven aces in the four sets to round out her 19 points. A six-rotation passer in the match, Kan also converted 34 of her 36 chances.

In match two against Guoquing Nvpai, Kan shined again. She posted eight points with seven kills and an ace while converting all 16 of her service receptions as the Americans again won, 3-1. Team USA also played against Fujian Nvpai and claimed a 3-0 win in that match on June 20. Kan was second on the team with 13 points, tallying five aces and eight kills.

Kan, the SEC Freshman of the Year, is one of four Tigers that will play with the Collegiate National Team and will return home June 27. All-American Whitney Little (Keller, Texas) is set to tour Europe from July 8-19 and both Sarah Meister (San Diego, Calif.) and Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) will compete in Minnesota this week until July 1.
