COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Golfers Emilio Cuartero and Ryan Zech were named to the 2014 PING All-America Teams on Thursday, continuing an impressive trend of accolades for the pair. Cuartero and Zech become the first PING All-Americans for the Tigers since Jace Long in 2011.
Missouri Golf finished the season 20th at the NCAA Championships (May 23-26) and were a program-best third at the NCAA Columbia Regional (May 15-17) hosted at The Club at Old Hawthorne last month in Columbia.
Cuartero earned Third Team All-America accolades after winning the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional and finishing 15th at the NCAA Finals at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. On the year, Cuartero led Mizzou and ranked among the SEC's best with a 70.72 scoring average. He won two events as a senior, the Columbia Regional Preview (Sept. 16-17) in the fall at The Club at Old Hawthorne and the NCAA Regional held last month. He finished his career with five victories, second all-time in program history.
Zech, a native of Kearney, Mo., was one of the country's best golfers towards the end of his junior season. He finished with three consecutive Top 20 efforts in postseason play. He opened his impressive run with a tie for 19th at the SEC Championship (April 25-27) and then finished 14th at the NCAA Columbia Regional.
