COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Hailey Twietmeyer is closing out her career in the black and gold, finally throwing to the top of the Mizzou Record Books in the javelin after sitting in the All-Time Top Ten since her freshman year.  Twietmeyer hit her top mark at the first home meet of her senior year, the Missouri Relays, winning the event in 51.17m (167-10.5).

Twietmeyer arrived in Columbia from Cheney High School in Wichita, Kan., where she was a seven-time All-State performer in the javelin, discus, and high jump.  As a Tiger, she qualified for the NCAA Championships Round One in 2011-13, earning a top finish of 23rd in 2013.  She will close her season at the Championships once again in 2014, ranked at No. 7 in the West Region.

Twietmeyer earned a spot on four Dean's Lists during her time at Mizzou, and made the 2010 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll.  She graduated with a degree in Social Work, a minor in Psychology, and a Multicultural Certificate.  She already has a job lined up in Kansas City, Mo., to work as a Clinical Case Manager.

IN HAILEY'S WORDS

On how she got started...
I started track and field when I was eight years old.  I competed on summer teams.

Why she chose the javelin...
I first started the javelin because my basketball coach wanted me to come try it due to my ability to throw a basketball.  From there it was easy to find the desire to do it because it was fun and exciting to learn and develop into a good thrower.

Her favorite memory before Mizzou...
In track it would be from eighth grade - I had a fabulous day in high jump and javelin.  I jumped 5-6 and threw 140-0 in the javelin; I felt so accomplished that day.

On why she chose Missouri...
The current athletes were a big plus to coming to Mizzou; I was welcomed with open arms.  I also enjoyed the town and felt like it was a great place to attend college.

A key moment in her career when things began to "click"...
I had times in my careery early on when I felt like things were clicking, and it made it even more exciting because I knew it was only a matter of time until it all came together to hit the big throws.

Her favorite Mizzou memory...
My favorite moment with the team has to be when Bethany Pfeiffer, Laura Greenfield, and I went exploring in Oregon.  We went and saw the ocean and had some amazing seafood and ice cream!

Her experience at Mizzou outside of athletics...
I have loved my experience outside of athletics.  The University s such a great place to get your degree and develop.  I especially have enjoyed being part of my cohort in my social work program.  I made some of my closest friends there and couldn't have asked for a better program to be in.

On the team...
The team has been a great support for me as I developed as a thrower.  They are fun to be around during the good and the hard times.  The team will always be a part of me throughout my life, and I will always know how much they have helped me become who I am today.

Future plans...
I plan to move to Kansas City, Mo., to start my new job as a Clinical Case Manager.  I will also be getting my Master's in Social Work.
