Game Notes: Kansas vs. Nebraska
Kansas
- Kansas' regional appearance marks its first NCAA appearance since 2006.
- With the win, Kansas improved to 29-2 when leading after four innings.
- Kelsey Kessler earned her 20th win of the season, holding the Huskers to just one run on five hits and shrinking her ERA to 2.32.
- 2B Ashley Newman extended her team-best hit streak to six games
- Newman stole her 13th base of the season in the first frame. She accounts for 13 of the Jayhawks' 17 swipes in 2014.
- LF Taylor Hatfield smacked just the fourth home run of her career in the first inning. The two-run blast also marked Hatfield's seventh multi-RBI game of 2014.
- Kansas 1B Maddie Stein recorded her team-leading 40th RBI in the top of the first inning. Stein now ranks sixth in Jayhawk history with 109 RBIs.
- Stein added a double in the top of the sixth inning to post her 50th career multi-hit game.
Nebraska
- Nebraska is making its 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014, which ranks 10th in NCAA history.
- 2B Hailey Decker roped her 18th double of the season, which ranks 12th nationally and are the most ever by a Husker sophomore.
- Decker went 1-of-3 at the plate against the Jayhawks to up her team leading batting average to.359.
- 3B MJ Knighten recorded a hit in the contest to hit safely in 10 of her last 11 games.
- Tatum Edwards tossed her 66th career complete game of the year in the circle, which puts her tied at seventh all-time in school history.
- Nebraska fell to 39-8 on the year when recording five hits or more.
