AUSTIN, Texas - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team concluded the 2014 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday in 16th-place after tallying a program record 95 points during the three-day event in Austin, Texas. Senior David Bonuchi and junior swimmer Sam Tierneyearned the 10th and third, respectively, first team All-America honors of their careers.
Over the course of the meet, the Tigers earned four individual All-America first team honors, two individual honorable mention accolades and honorable mention honors in two relays. The squad also set or tied seven school records.
Bonuchi concluded his Missouri career with a fourth-place finish on the platform. The senior led the field with one dive remaining but near-perfect dives from his competitors put Bonuchi fourth for the second time in the Championships. Bonuchi concluded his Missouri career as the most decorated Tiger in program history with 10 All-America accolades in 12 opportunities.
Tierney notched his third career All-America first team honor with an eight-place finish in the 200 breast. The junior qualified for the championship final after tying his career best time of 1:53.42 in prelims. He then swam a 1:53.83 in the final to take eighth. With his All-America honor in the 100 breast and last year's 200 breast race, Tierney's three honors are a swimming program record.
Sophomore diver Clark Thomas earned the first two All-America honorable mention selections on the springboards, with finishes of ninth on the 3-meter and 14th on 1-meter. Mizzou's medley relays both earned honorable mention honors as well, as the team of senior Logan Mosley, Tierney and freshmen Andrew Sansoucie and Michael Chadwicktook ninth in the 200 medley relay and 12th in the 400 medley relay.
Other Mizzou competitors on Saturday included Thomas on the platform (18th with 310.90 points), freshman Carter Griffin in the 200 back (28th in 1:42.71) and junior Eegan Groomein the 1650 free (32nd in 15:16.98).
