March 25, 2014

Full Release

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers will kick off their 2014 outdoor season in the top 30 of the National Rankings, as released by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) on Tuesday.  The women were put at No. 27 in the NCAA based off of performances during the 2013 season.

This is the highest ranking for either team entering the season since 2008, when the pre-season rankings began.  It comes on the heels of an exciting end to the indoor season for the women, as they placed 16th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM, earlier this month.  Scoring for the Tigers at the Championship were the two All-Americans, juniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin.

Peoples doubled-up during the two-day meet, placing seventh in the weight throw and third in the shot put to earn her fifth and sixth career All-American finishes.  Rushin joined her on the podium for the shot put, placing sixth for her first career All-American award.

Their 16th-place combined effort at the Championships is the highest finish for the Tigers since 2001 when the women placed seventh.

The teams will kick off their outdoor schedule with the prestigious Texas Relays out of Austin, Tx., on Thursday, March 27th through Saturday, March 29th.  For the latest on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
