MINNEAPOLIS - The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team advanced two swimmers and one relay to Friday night finals during day two of the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis. The finals session will begin at 7 p.m. CT.
The Tigers opened the day with a strong swim in the 200 medley Relay. Mizzou's team of junior Emily Doucette, freshman Katharine Ross, junior Danielle Barbiea and sophomore Anna Patterson took 10th in prelims with a swim of 1:37.46, which stands third all-time in Missouri history. With the finish, the Tigers will swim in the evening's consolation final.
In the 100 breast, Ross just missed a spot in the championship final with a time of 59.63, which placed ninth. With the swim, Ross, who will swim in the consolation final, became the first Mizzou freshman swimmer to earn individual All-America honors since 1978.
Barbiea also advanced to the consolation final in the 100 fly after touching the wall in 52.15 for 14th.Patterson also swam the 100 fly, where she placed 24th with a personal best time of 52.50.
The Tigers return to the pool at 7 p.m. on Friday for day two finals.
