COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 11 when the team faces Tennessee and Virginia at 11 a.m. CT in Knoxville, Tenn. Saturday marks the first competition for the swimming teams since the Mizzou Invite in late November.
TEAM RANKINGS
Both Mizzou's men's and women's teams are ranked in the current CSCAA rankings. The Tiger men come in at No. 7, which is a new program record, and are the second-highest Southeastern Conference team in the rankings, behind just No. 3 Florida. The Missouri women are ranked No. 21, just one off their season best of 20th (set on Nov. 27).
ABOUT TENNESSEE
The Lady Vols are a perfect 5-0 this year and 2-0 in SEC competition with wins over South Carolina (170-130) and Kentucky (214-84). The Volunteer men own a mark of 3-2 but are a perfect 2-0 in league action, after wins over South Carolina (172-128) and Kentucky (177-123).
ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH
The Hokie men enter Saturday with a dual record of 6-1, with the lone loss coming at the hands of Ohio State. The women are 4-3 with wins over Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.
THOMAS NAMED SEC MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Clark Thomas was named the SEC Male Diver of the Week on Jan. 7 for his performance at the Georgia Diving Invitational. Thomas claimed the 3-meter title, set two career highs and earned two more top-six finishes at last weekend's three-day meet. The sophomore opened the Invitational with a win on the 3-meter with a finals round score of 386.75, a new career high by 17 points. Clark also notched a career best on 1-meter prelims with a tally of 365.65 as he ultimately finished in fifth-place. He concluded the meet with a sixth-place finish on the platform with 326.85 points.
TIGERS IN THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
On an individual level, 12 different Tigers rank among the nation's best in their respective events. Leading the way is junior Danielle Barbiea, who is tied for the nation's best time in the 100 fly (51.13) and is ranked in three other events.
