COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Oregon State Beavers erupted for six runs to post a 6-0 shutout over the Stony Brook Seawolves in game four of the NCAA Columbia Regional on Saturday, May 18. The Beavers (34-23) face Hofstra at 5 p.m. on Saturday, while the Seawolves (35-25) were eliminated from postseason play.
Oregon State pitcher Marina Demore threw a two-hitter and struck out three batters to improve to 21-12 on the season. Stony Brook's Allison Cukrov was credited with the loss after allowing six runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings.
Neither team could get anything going until the bottom of the second when Oregon State's Desiree Beltran belted a home run to left to give the Beavers an early 1-0 advantage.
The Beavers recorded five runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach. Left fielder Ashley Sanchez got things going for Oregon State with a single up the middle, followed by a single to right from catcher Ally Kutz and a walk to right fielder Maggie Doremus to load the bases. Center fielder Lea Cavestany shot a single to left to score Sanchez and keep the bases loaded. After second baseman Ya Garcia was hit by a pitch to make the score 2-0, shortstop Elizabeth Santana blasted a double to right center to clear the bases and put the Beavers on top 6-0.
Demore allowed just one hit to the Seawolves over the final three innings to give the Beavers the victory.
