Women's Golf Begins Play at SEC Tournament

Birmingham, Ala.-- After storms delayed the first round at Greystone Golf and Country Club, Mizzou Women's Golf finished the first day of play at the SEC Tournament 24-over par to tie for eighth overall. The Tigers sit even with No. 32 Tennessee and ahead of No, 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Florida, Mississippi, No. 24 Texas A&M and No. 43 Auburn. No. 31 LSU leads the tournament with a score 15-over par, and No. 2 Alabama and No. 18 Georgia round out the top three competitors.
Individually, Kentucky's Sarah Harris and Mississippi's Stani Schiavone lead the tournament at 1-over par after just 18-holes. Junior Taylor Gohn leads the Tigers after the first round, finishing the day just 5-over par and recording back-to-back birdies on the back nine. She is tied for 18th overall in the tournament. Alina Rogers and Michelle Butler are close behind Gohn as they are tied for 27th overall after shooting 6-over par on the day.
Freshman Katherine Hepler is just one stroke behind Butler as well. She scored 7-over par in the first round to place 41st so far. Laura Kraft rounds out the Tiger lineup, finishing the day 11-over par. Kraft is tied for 64th place after one round of play.
The 2013 SEC Women's Golf Tournament is being held at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Teams are playing the club's Founders Course; a par 72, 6,401-yard course.
