Mizzou vs. LSU - March 2, 2013
Missouri earned its first win in series history vs. LSU and the LSU Tigers now lead the all-time series 2-1. Today's meeting was the first in Columbia.
LSU won the first meeting in the series this season, but Missouri did not have the services of Keion Bell in that 73-70 loss.
The Tigers improved to 16-0 at home this year and will look to finish the 2012-13 regular season unbeaten at home on Tuesday vs. Arkansas. That Tuesday night game (6 p.m.) will be the final at home for seniors Keion Bell, Laurence Bowers and Alex Oriakhi. Missouri was last undefeated at home in 2008-09. Fans are encouraged to wear Gold to Tuesday's home finale.
Missouri improved to 83-4 at Mizzou Arena since the 2008-09 season.
Missouri pushed its home court winning streak to 17 games, which ties for the seventh longest in school history. The Tigers last won 17 straight at home in 2010-11. The streak is also the fifth longest active run in America and could move up to fourth pending Louisiana Tech's home outcome tonight vs. San Jose State.
The Tigers have been dominant at home this year, sporting a 18.5 point per game margin of victory, including double-figure wins in six of eight home games.
Missouri won the rebounding advantage 35-to-30 and has won the battle of the boards in 24-of-29 games.
Missouri had a great shooting week in wins against South Carolina and LSU, hitting 63 percent of its field goals and 44 percent of its treys.
Phil Pressey eclipsed 200 assists for the second consecutive season and is at 206 assists and counting. The junior dished eight dimes today and needs just 18 more to break his own single season school record of 223 set last season.
Over his last four games Pressey is averaging 9.3 assists per game.
Pressey is also nearing the career mark for steals. He had two thefts today, pushing his career mark to 189, just eight off the school record of 196 set by Anthony Peeler.
Earnest Ross returned to double figures with 13 points. Ross has reached double figures 10 times this season off the bench.
Laurence Bowers scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record his sixth double-double of the year. The 20-point game was L-Bo's fifth of the season and most points scored since the Bud Light Braggin' Rights win over Illinois.
Missouri has had 22 20-point efforts this season following Bowers' 23 tallies.
Alex Oriakhi also recorded a double-double, his 10th of the season. It's the most double-doubles for a Tigers since Linas Kleiza grabbed 10 in 2004-05. Oriakhi finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.
With those 10 rebounds Alex Oriakhi is nearing the 1,000 rebound milestone. He has 996 and needs just four on Tuesday vs. Arkansas to reach that feat. Only Arthur Johnson (1,093) and Doug Smith (1,053) have grabbed 1,000 career rebounds as Missouri Tigers.
Oriakhi is now in the Top 10 for blocked shots in a season at Mizzou. Oriakhi has 47 following today's game, ninth all time.
