Purdue Sweeps Central Arkansas to Advance to Round Two

COLUMBIA, Mo. - With a win over Central Arkansas Friday evening, Purdue advances to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The Boilermakers dominated the Sugar Bears in the 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13) win, holding them to a season-low .010 hitting percentage and forcing 26 attack errors. The hitting percentage is the lowest any opponent has hit on Purdue this season in a three-game match. Their previous lowest opponent hitting percentage was .088 in their win against Indiana on Oct. 22.
Purdue controlled the match from the start thanks to their balanced scoring attack led by Sam Epenesa and Annie Drews. Epenesa finished the match with eight kills, while Drews had seven. As a team, the Boilermakers had a hitting percentage of .312, securing 36 kills. Kiki Jones led the Boilermakers in blocks with eight. With her blocks, Jones moved into fifth-place on the Boilermakers' single-season block assists record with 133 total blocks on the season.
Purdue improved to 21-11 on the season, while Central Arkansas ended their season with a 24-9 record. The Boilermakers will carry a five-game winning streak into the second round of the tournament.
The second round of the Columbia, Mo., sub-regional will take place Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. The Boilermakers will face the winner of the Mizzou and IUPUI game slated for a 6:30 p.m. start Friday night.
