Tigers Start Strong During Day One Prelims at Mizzou Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team started the 2013 Mizzou Invite with a bang as the Tigers posted 11 NCAA 'B' times and set two new school records during day one preliminaries.

In the first swimming event of morning preliminaries, senior Logan Mosley broke his own school record with a time of 46.82. The swim was the fastest in the nation this year and was an NCAA `B' cut. Freshman Andrew Sansoucie was second in prelims with a B cut of 48.25, which moved him into eighth on Mizzou's all-time list.

The Tigers took six of the top eight spots in the men's 500 free and posted three NCAA `B' times. Junior Eegan Groome took first in 4:19.79, just over a second off his school record. Classmate Andrew Phillips notched a time of 4:23.62 for third and freshman Carter Griffin rounded out Mizzou's `B' qualifiers with a 4:24.63 for fourth. Freshman Martin Wallace (4:25.94), freshman Nick Davis (4:29.15) and sophomore Daniel Graviss (4:29.32), placed fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Mizzou continued its strong morning with a top-six sweep in the 200 IM, including five NCAA `B' cuts. Junior Sam Tierney led the way as he placed first in 1:45.04 to break his own school record. Classmates Mack Darragh (1:45.40) and Igor Kozlovskij (1:45.74) also notched personal bests en route to `B' times. Freshman Michael Chadwick and junior Austin Fish also posted `B' cuts as Chadwick took fourth with a swim of 1:47.38 and Fish was fifth in 1:47.88.

Mosley was on his game in the 50 free as well, with a personal best time of 19.74 to place first in prelims. The swim currently ranks third in the nation this year and was just 0.02 off Jordan Hawley's school record of 19.72. Senior Mark Conroy took fourth in prelims with a time of 20.23, while sophomore Max Grodecki was seventh in 20.39.

In the diving well, senior David Bonuchi and sophomore Clark Thomas both qualified for the 1-meter springboard finals. Bonuchi took second in prelims with a score of 343.35, just 0.1 off first. Thomas was fourth in 320.35.

The Mizzou Invite continues with day one finals on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
