21 Track & Field Athletes Earn Spots at the NCAA West Prelims

Columbia, Mo. - Twenty-one track & field athletes have officially stamped their tickets to Austin, TX, next week for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, as released by the NCAA earlier this afternoon.  The three-day meet (May 23-25) is the final barrier between the Tigers and the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, OR, from June 5-8.  Qualifiers for the Championships will come from the top 12 finishers in each event during next week's Preliminary Round.

Events for the Tigers will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 23) with senior Malcolm Pennix in the long jump.  He enters the competition ranked 12th in the West region.  He is joined by freshman Markesh Woodson (100m dash), senior Blake Irwin (800m run), freshman Sam Dickerson (3k steeplechase), senior Dan Quigley (5000m run), senior Max Storms (10,000m run), junior Hayden Legg (10,000m run), junior Kyle Wessel (pole vault), freshman Tony Carodine (triple jump), sophomore Jonathan Ilori (triple jump), sophomore Brian Duncan (hammer), senior Jacob Bullinger (hammer), and sophomore Macauley Garton (javelin) on the men's side.

The first running event will be the women's 1500m at 5:30 p.m. with senior Laura Roxberg, ranked second in the region.  Filling out the rest of the women's squad will be senior Bailey Belvis (5000m run), sophomore Katrine Haarklau (pole vault, javelin), sophomore Kearsten Peoples (shot put, discus), sophomore Jill Rushin (shot put), senior Cortni Ervin (shot put), junior Hailey Twietmeyer (javelin), and senior Bethany Pfeiffer (javelin).
