COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Five members of the Mizzou men's swimming team advanced to Friday's championship finals at day four of the 2013 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. In the 100 breast alone, the Tigers have three of the eight finalists.
In the opening event of the day, sophomore Mack Darragh broke his own school record in the 200 fly in a time of 1:45.10. The time was good enough to place him seventh and a berth in tonight's finals. Sophomore Andrew Phillips will swim in the C final as he placed 18th in 1:47.62.
Junior Logan Mosley continued his great meet to tie for fourth in the 100 back and a spot in the A final. He notched a career best time of 47.02, which ranks him second all-time at Mizzou. Senior Joe Hladik missed advancing to the A final by just 0.05, as he finished ninth in the event with a personal best swim of 47.74. Hladik will be joined in the B final by sophomore Austin Fish, who clocked a personal best of 47.99 to take 13th. Seniors John Higgins (48.77) and Ryan Sellers (48.82) and freshman Max Grodecki (48.86) will all swim in the C final, with Higgins and Sellers notching career best as well.
The Missouri men were particularly strong in the 100 breast and advanced three Tigers to tonight's A final. Sophomore Igor Kozlovskij placed third in a career best 53.20, which puts him second all-time in program history. Sophomore Sam Tierney swam a 53.36 to take fifth and junior Mark Conroy placed eighth in 53.75. Senior Jowan Qupty barely missed making it a half-Tiger A final with a ninth-place finish in the event in 53.87.
The finals session of day four will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.
