COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team claimed the eighth annual Show-Me Showdown to open the 2012-13 season Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Tigers won 10 of 13 event titles during the meet to highlight the day.
Missouri scored 691 points to win the meet, followed by Drury in second (484), Missouri State in third (466), Truman State in fourth (227), Lindenwood in fifth (214.5), Washington University in sixth (214.5) and William Jewell in eighth (106).
Senior Dominique Bouchard and Cassie Cunningham both claimed two titles during the meet. Bouchard finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.13 and the 500 free after a swim of 5:04.90. Cunningham earned wins in the 50 free with a 23.49 and the 100 back with a time of 56.24.
The Tigers opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Bouchard, senior Rachel Ripley, freshman Danielle Barbiea and sophomore Emily Doucette swam a time of 1:43.90. Missouri's 400 free relay team of Bouchard, senior Rachel Ripley, freshman Anna Patterson and Cunningham also earned top honors with a swim of 3:30.26.
Joining Bouchard at the top of the 200 free were freshmen Anna Patterson, who came in second in 1:54.86, and senior Brigette Selbert, who placed third after a swim of 1:55.21.
In the 200 IM, senior Rachel Ripley won Mizzou's third straight event as she swam a 2:04.46 to claim first place. Sophomore Danielle Spradlin finished in second with a time of 2:09.39.
Freshman Danielle Barbiea claimed her first individual event win of her career in the 100 fly after swimming a 56.31 to earn top honors. Junior Lexi Spivak took second in a time of 57.73.
In the 100 free, Doucette won Mizzou's sixth title to that point clocking a time of 52.47.
In addition to Cunningham's success in the 100 back, freshman Madison Bridges finished in second with a 58.54 and freshman Allie Sullins came in third with 58.59.
In the diving well, Loren Figueroa claimed the 1-meter dive with 288.80 points, while freshman Lauren Reedy scored 265.30 to win the 3-meter.
Mizzou returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 20 when the team hosts Missouri State at 2 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
