COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 15 Mizzou soccer team continues Southeastern Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 23 when the squad hosts Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium.
The Tigers enter Sundays matchup with an 8-1 overall mark and a 3-0 record in SEC action. Missouri opened the weekend with a 2-1 comeback win over Ole Miss on Friday evening.
The Rebels went up 1-0 in the 12th minute and held the lead until midway through the second half. In the 63rd minute, senior Haley Krentz gathered a ball on the right endline and sent a pass into the box. Sophomore Abi Raymer pounced on the pass and knocked the ball into the back of the net for a 1-1 game. The goal was Raymer's fourth of the season, while Krentz earned her sixth assist of the year on the play.
The Tigers took the lead in the 79th minute when Krentz sailed a corner kick to the far post that a Ole Miss player cleared to the middle of the box. Redshirt freshman Lauren Flynn one-timed the miss-clear over the Rebel keeper for her first career goal.
Thanks to Friday's victory, Mizzou is off to its best start in program history. This season marks the first time the team has ever been 8-1. The 2006 and 2011 teams both went 7-1 to start their respective years but lost their ninth games to fall to 7-2.
Vanderbilt comes into Sunday's game with a 4-3-3 record and on the heels of a 4-2 win at Mississippi State on Friday. The output matched a season high in goals for the Commodores.
