Wichita, Ks. – On Sat., Feb. 11th, the Missouri Tigers faced a now 4-1 Wichita State team. Mizzou is now 2-3 overall after competing against the Shockers.

The Shockers took an early lead in doubles. Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Ventiinque were able to overcome Rachel Stuhlmann (St. Louis, Mo.) and her doubles partner Alex Clark (London, England) 8-2. The duo of seniors Jamie Mera (Tampa, Fla.) and Nina Pantic (Lake Worth, Fla.) battled hard versus Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova but the Shocker pairing prevailed 8-5 giving Wichita State the lead 1-0. Both Maria Christensen (Hellerup, Denmark) and Annemjin Koenen (St. Charles, Ill.) rounded up doubles play and beat their doubles opponents 8-2.

In singles play, Christensen was able to quickly defeat Delia Damaschin in two sets 6-1, 6-3 and Alex Clark finished soon after her, also winning over her opponent, in two sets 6-1, 7-6. This put the Tigers up 2-1 against the Shockers. Mizzou's Pantic fought hard against Budiharto. She was able to win her first set 7-5 but it was Budiharto who was able to clench onto the last two sets 6-4, 6-1. The teams were tied after that match had concluded. Stuhlmann, a sophomore, was her first set 6-3 but Blaskova was able to take the second set 6-4. Stuhlmann continued her contest and was able to beat Blaskova 6-3 to put the Tigers back up 3-2. It was in the last two singles matches that Wichita State overcame the Tigers 4-3.

The Tigers will be at home next week to face Illinois State on Fri., Feb. 17th at 5 p.m. in the Pink Out match, which will support the Komen Foundation for Mid-Missouri, and then on Sunday they will play St. Louis University at 1 p.m.
