Columbia, Mo. - Columbia, Mo. - Sophomore Taylor Gohn is fifth and freshman Laura Kraftis ninth lifting the University of Missouri Women's Golf program into third place after the opening round of play at the 2011 Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Tigers are just five shots behind East Carolina and nine shots behind tournament leader North Carolina State. Inclement weather limited play at the Cardinal Club Golf Course and shortened the event to 36 holes. The final round will be played Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
Missouri's youthful roster played well on Monday, showing substantial improvement from last week's season-opener. Gohn, a returning Big 12 All-Tournament Team performer as a rookie in 2010-11 was solid, recording three birdies on the day. Gohn is fifth overall heading into the final round, just two shots behind individual leaders Amanda Baker (North Carolina State), AnnaKarin Ljungstrom (Louisville) and Fanny Wolte (East Carolina).
Kraft made her collegiate debut on Monday and shot a 3-over-par 75. A birdie on the par-3 16th pushed the Jamestown, N.D., native inside the Top 10 and has her just three shots off the early pace.
