SAN DIEGO - The University of Missouri soccer team fell to the University of San Diego Toreros 2-1 in the regular season opener Friday night in San Diego. Junior Haley Krentz scored the Tigers' only goal.
Missouri went down 2-0 early, as the Toreros scored on an early corner in the fifth minute by Dani Russell and another goal in the 14th minute by Elissa Magracia.
The Tigers scored their only goal of the game in the 17th minute when Krentz unleashed a rocket shot across the box into the upper corner.
Mizzou was out shot in the first half 10-2 but turned it around in the second while pressing for an equalizing goal.
"We played a much better second half, it was a hard lesson to learn that we can carry with us," said Head Coach Bryan Blitz. "San Diego was a great opponent, but I'm proud of the way our team fought back after falling behind in the first 15 minutes."
Sophomore Dominique Richardson and freshman Kaysie Clark both had long-range efforts sail just wide in the middle of the second half, as the Tigers let loose a late flurry in front of the San Diego goal made but failed to net the equalizer.
Missouri has its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 against Eastern Illinois at Walton Stadium.
