Wilson Leads Team at Nebraska All-Star Match

LINCOLN, Neb. - Mizzou freshman outside hitter Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) led her team to a Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game title yesterday (July 26) in Lincoln. The incoming Tiger freshman tallied a match high 16 kills, including four kills and a block in the decisive fifth set. She helped the Blue Team win, 3-2 (25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12), in front of 2,200 fans.
Wilson led the Blue Team with 12 kills through the first three sets, but as other players needed playing time in the All-Star game, Wilson was moved to the bench in the fourth set to allow more playing time for others. But after the Blue Team dropped the fourth set, 25-20, Blues head coach Ed Rowse opted to play Wilson in the decisive fifth set, and it paid off. Wilson sparked the team to a 10-3 lead in the fifth before putting the match away with a 15-12 set win.
Wilson was the go-to offensive player for the Blues in the fifth set, tallying four kills and a block. She was teamed with former club teammate Michelle Sicner, a Creighton signee at the setter position. Those two developed a rhythm in the fifth set and helped the Blues take the team title.
Mizzou fans can get their first look at Wilson, who is the younger sister of former Tiger Catie Wilson, as the volleyball program will host the annual Black & Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 19.
