Game Five Notes
#1 Missouri (48-8) 8, #4 Illinois State (36-19) 4
May 21, 2011 – Columbia Regional Game 5
- Missouri earned its fifth win against Illinois State this season and advanced in the Columbia Regional of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Mizzou will face DePaul at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Tigers will need two victories over the Blue Demons to advance to the 2011 NCAA Super Regional.
- The last time Missouri faced a non-conference foe five (or more) times in the same season was 1994 when the club went 4-2 in six meetings vs. Hawaii.
- The last time Missouri beat a non-conference team five times in the same season was in 1993 when Mizzou topped Saint Louis University five times. The Tigers actually outscored SLU 49-1 combined in those five victories.
- Missouri improved to 48-8 on the season and is two wins shy of their third consecutive 50-win campaign.
- Despite a loss earlier in the day to DePaul, Mizzou has played well over the past six weeks. The Tigers are 11-2 over their last 13 games and 21-3 over their past 24 outings since April 3.
- In postseason games at home Missouri is 10-1 the past two-plus seasons, including a 2-0 mark in the 2010 NCAA Super Regional.
- Kristin Nottelmann went 2-0 on Saturday, with both wins coming against Illinois State. She has been the starting pitcher in each of Missouri's last three victories, including an 8-1 win over Iowa State in the Big 12 Conference Championship-clinching victory. She improved to 17-1 on the year with today's wins.
- Nottelmann recorded her 52nd career win on Saturday as well. That moved her into sole possession of ninth on the career victories list.
- Missouri improved to 27-3 when scoring in the first inning and 42-4 when scoring first overall. In two games vs. Illinois State on Saturday the Tigers scored six first-inning runs to fuel the big wins.
- Rhea Taylor added another multi-hit game to her resume on Saturday. She now leads the club with 61 hits and scored three runs to push her season mark to 46.
- Taylor also recorded four stolen bases to push her season mark to 39. That total is sixth in single-season history. She needs two more thefts to move into fifth. Over her last two games Taylor has recorded hits on five consecutive at-bats.
- Taylor's four stolen bases tied a career high and equaled the school record. She also took four bases vs. Boston University on Feb. 29, 2008.
- Marla Schweisberger recorded a multi-hit game as well, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. She doubled to lead off the second inning before singling in the third. She then hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to lift Missouri to the victory.
- In two games vs. Illinois State on Saturday Schweisberger went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and four RBIs. During her one non-hit she still reached base due to a fielding error.
- Missouri has now hit four homers in the 2011 Columbia Regional and 62 total for the season. The Tigers need three more to move into second place all-time. The 2005 club hit a school record 82 homers.
- Nicole Hudson drove home two RBIs as well for Missouri. She now has 49 runs driven in this season and has five so far in the regional, tops among all players.
