COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field program wrapped up day two of the Missouri Relays and the Tigers claimed titles in seven different events. In all, the Tigers saw plenty of success at the two-day meet at Audrey J. Walton Stadium as it marked the team's 2011 outdoor home opener.
In the field events, freshman Jeremy Lampley won the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.87m (45-6 ¼), earning his first event title of the outdoor season. In the men's shot put, sophomore All-Big 12 honoree Brooks Mosier won the men's shot put after measuring in at 17.67m (57-11 ¾). The mark for Mosier is a new outdoor personal-best by nearly a meter. All-American combined event specialist Lars Rise took fourth in the event at 15.83m (51-11 ¼) as well.
Staying in the throws events, the women had a great day in the discus. Megan Collins was the Tigers' top finisher as she placed second in the event at 47.11m (154-6). But she wasn't the only Tiger to impress as freshman Jill Rushin - who was competing unattached - won the event while sophomore Katie Evans, also competing unattached, took third overall.
In the women's shot women's shot put, Kearsten Peoples and Rushin took the top two spots (both were competing unattached) with marks of 16.30m (53-5 ¾) and 15.32m (50-3 ¼). Peoples mark would be a new Mizzou freshman record had she not been competing unattached but it is still a massive personal-best in the event. Rushin nearly eclipsed the Mizzou freshman record as well.
In the men's discus Mosier has good performance, placing third at 52.40m (171-11). Mizzou rounded out the meet with the 4x400m relay. The women took second overall in the event after clocking in at 3:52.28 and the men won the event at 3:12.18.
The women also had a nice day in the pole vault as Mizzou earned the top two spots in the event. Sophomore Heather Green won the event after clearing 3.65m (11-11 ¾). Teammate Holly Stewart took second as she cleared the same bar, which is a new outdoor personal-best for her.
Moving to the track, Layne Moore won the women's 1,500m run with a time of 4:37.19, a personal-best for the 800m standout. On the short track, the men's 4x100m relay - comprised of Mark Hughes, Tre' Chambers, Josh Scott and Matt Pickerel - took first overall with a time of 41.29. The women's 4x100m relay of Shawnte Middlebrook, Sierra Gant, Cara Forte and Lauren Flaker was equally as impressive, taking second overall at 47.55.
After a good day in day one of the meet on Friday, Leslie Farmer put together a fine day on Saturday as well. She placed second in the 400m hurdles at 59.87 and also earned runner-up nods in the 100m dash at 14.56. Chris Davis won the 400m hurdles on the men's side at 52.90, just a second off of his personal-best in the event.
Middlebrook led the Tigers in the women's triple jump after coming in at 11.67m (38-3 ½) to place second overall.
