COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the final six minutes to defeat Kansas 3-2 Friday night at Walton Stadium. All three Tiger goals were scored by senior captains Kendra Collins, Mallory Stipetich and Kelsey Blincow. The win improved Mizzou's record to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in Big 12 play, while the Jayhawks fell to 10-7 and 2-4.
With the Tigers trailing 2-0, Naperville, Ill., native Collins got Missouri on the scoreboard in the 84th minute with a chip over the Kansas keeper from the top of the box. The goal was the third in four games for the senior.
Less than a minute later, Stipetich headed home a free kick from freshman Kaysie Clark to tie the game at 2-2. Stipetich's tally was the her first of the year and her first since her freshman season in 2008.
The Tigers' improbable rally was capped in the 89th minute when sophomore Alyssa Diggs was taken down in the box and MU was awarded a penalty kick. Blincow calmly stepped up and converted the PK to give the Tigers their first lead of the game, 3-2. The goal was the fourth of the year for Blincow and her second PK of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Kansas used a goal from Liana Salazar in the 73rd minute to take a 1-0 lead and a tally from Caroline Kastor in the 82nd minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper McKenzie Sauerwein made a career high 15 saves against the potent KU attack.
The Tigers finish off regular season play Friday, Oct. 28 at Walton Stadium against Iowa State on Senior Night. Before the contest, Missouri will honor seniors Blincow, Collins and Stipetich for their contributions to the program.
