Columbia, Mo. - With three wins against Top 20 teams in her first year at the helm of the Missouri Women's Basketball program, head coach Robin Pingeton and the Tigers are looking to build on that success in her second season. Mizzou released its 2011-2012 schedule on Friday, which includes 18 league games in the country's toughest conference, as well as non-league tilts against Big 10, Conference USA and Summit League opponents.
Mizzou tips-off the season with exhibition games against in-state schools Truman State (Nov. 1) and Missouri-St. Louis (Nov. 8). The regular season begins with a home game on Nov. 20 against North Florida at Mizzou Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The non-conference schedule is highlighted with a home game against Northwestern in the Big 12/Big 10 Challenge. The rest of the non-conference home slate is rounded out with games against Eastern Illinois (Dec. 7), North Dakota State (Dec. 10) and Memphis (Dec. 22).
"We are looking forward to our second season here at Mizzou," Head Coach Robin Pingeton said. "The 2011-2012 non-conference schedule will continue to help our players prepare for conference games in the Big 12 and continue to build on the foundation we laid in our first season."
The Tigers open up conference play against Big 12 Champion Baylor in Waco, Texas, on Jan. 4th. Big 12 home games include Texas Tech on Jan. 7th, arch rival Kansas on Jan. 15, Oklahoma on Jan. 28 and 2011 NCAA Champion Texas A&M, on Feb. 14th.
"The Big 12 is the toughest conference in the country and opening up against the conference champs will be challenge, not to mention that the league got even tougher this year since we now play each team twice", Pingeton said.
Missouri's season finale is against Oklahoma (March 3) before heading into the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City.
"It will be a fun year for our team and fans and allow us to gage where we are as a program and the next steps we need to take to compete at a high level year after year in the Big 12," Pingeton said.
