Collegiate National Team Wins Two

June 27, 2011

LYNN, Mass. - The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, led by Mizzou head baseball coach Tim Jamieson, picked up two more wins over the weekend, defeating Mystic 5-2 on Friday before topping the North Shore Navigators, 4-1, on Sunday. The win over North Shore was the team's third straight as it is undefeated so far and Mizzou starter Eric Anderson picked up the win after firing five shutout innings in his first start with the collegiate national team this summer.

Anderson, who was selected as an alternate for the 2011 team, had a great outing on Sunday. He started the game and went 5.0 innings while allowing just three hits and a walk. At one point he had retired nine straight batters in the win as well while striking out two. He threw just 61 pitches in the 5.0 innings. Anderson was supposed to start Saturday against the Holyoke Sox, but rain forced a postponement of that game, so Anderson started Sunday instead.

North Shore starter Crayton Bare held the Collegiate National Team off balance until a run in the fifth put Anderson in line for the win. The team then used three steals in the sixth to score three more runs, putting the game out of reach and securing the win for Anderson.

On Friday, Team USA needed a comeback effort to defeat Mystic, 5-2. The team trailed 2-0 heading to the eight, but three Mystic errors led to four runs for Team USA, which tacked on one more run in the ninth as it scored all five of its runs over the final two innings. The Collegiate National Team managed just four hits in the win and just two RBI, but the top three batters in the order accounted for two of the four hits and three runs in the win.

Jamieson and the Collegiate National Team will be back in action today as they will play the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Stars at Fenway Park, beginning at 11 a.m. (CT). For all the latest on Jamieson and the Collegiate National Team, stay tuned to MUTigers.com.
