EUGENE, Ore. - Tiger 400m hurdler Leslie Farmer punched her ticket to the final round of the NCAA Championships after finishing ninth overall in the event with a time of 58.25, just off of her school-record pace in the event as the Mizzou track and field team wrapped up day two at the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round. She joins seniors Brian Hancock and Lars Rise, who have also qualified for the NCAA Championships. It will also be her first career trip to the NCAA Championship final round.
But Farmer wasn't the only Tiger to turn in a nice performance on Friday as freshman sprinter Tre' Chambers also advanced in the 200m dash. He ran a time of 21.63 to place 24th overall, earning a spot in tomorrow's quarterfinals. The top 12 finishers in tomorrow's quarterfinals will move onto the final round of the NCAA Championships as Chambers will look to secure one of those spots tomorrow.
Staying in the sprint events, senior Chris Davis also had a fine day in the 400m hurdles, but just missed qualifying for the final round. He clocked in at 51.70 in the event to place 16th overall, just four spots shy of qualifying for the NCAA Final Round.
Moving to the throws, Chris Holly also just missed qualifying for the NCAA Final Round in the hammer throw despite a great effort. He threw 61.02m (200-2) to place 15th overall, just three spots back of qualifying. The mark was just shy of his season-best effort as well. Teammate Jacob Bullinger finished 35th overall in the hammer at 56.39m (185-0). On the women's side, Melissa Coil placed 36th overall in the hammer throw at 53.15m (174-4).
That wrapped up competition for the Tigers on the day. Mizzou will be back in action tomorrow. For all the latest on Mizzou track and field, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
