Game Six Notes
#1 Missouri (49-8) 7, #3 DePaul (41-14) 3
May 22, 2011 - Columbia Regional Game 6

DePaul Game Notes

  • DePaul dropped the 7-3 decision and will meet Missouri in the championship game of the 2011 Columbia Regional.
  • The loss was just the third for the Blue Demons over the last 24 games (21-3) and was of course the first of the Columbia Regional.
  • DePaul fell to 2-3 on the year vs. ranked opponents. The Blue Demons earned a 2-1 extra-innings win vs. Mizzou on Saturday.
  • Brittany Yniguez continued her solid hitting vs. Chelsea Thomas. She had two hits in the first game on Sunday and had a hit and an RBI in Saturday's Blue Demon win vs. the Tigers. She entered Sunday's first game hitting just .164.
  • Freshman Kirsten Verdun drove home her team-leading 43rd RBI of the season to open the game's scoring. She also led off the sixth inning with a double, her sixth two-bagger of the campaign.

Missouri Game Notes

  • Missouri improved to 49-8 on the season and is one win shy of its third consecutive 50-win campaign and third straight NCAA Regional crown.
  • Mizzou avenged an earlier loss to DePaul and the Tigers are now 12-2 over their last 14 games and 22-3 over their past 25 outings since April 3.
  • In postseason games at home Missouri is 11-1 the past two-plus seasons, including a 2-0 mark in the 2010 NCAA Super Regional.
  • Missouri has had a number of big offensive innings in this weekend's regional and a four-run second frame fueled the Tiger victory over DePaul on Sunday. Overall Missouri has six multi-run innings in the Columbia Regional, including three innings of four runs or more.
  • Mizzou improved to 7-3 when opponents score first this season.
  • Chelsea Thomas earned the win to improve to 28-6 on the season. The 28 wins are fourth all-time in a single season at Missouri and her 56 career wins ranks eighth.
  • She also struck out three batters and has a school record 337 K's this season.
  • Rhea Taylor added another multi-hit game to her resume on Sunday. She now leads the club with 65 hits.
  • Taylor continued her outstanding play in the regional, recording her third home run of the season in the second inning to put the Tigers in front 4-1. The three-run homer was her first since a March 2 win against Drake in the first game of a double header.
  • She drove in her fourth RBI (of the game) in the fourth inning with a ground out. The four RBIs tied a season high, which also occurred in that first game vs. Drake back on March 2.
  • Taylor has nine hits in 15 at-bats and has seven hits in her last eight plate appearances.
  • Missouri has now hit five homers in the 2011 Columbia Regional and 63 total for the season. The Tigers need two more to move into second place all-time. The 2005 club hit a school record 82 homers.
  • Missouri stole four bases, including two by Abby Vock. Missouri is now a perfect 22-of-22 in stolen base attempts in the Columbia Regional.
  • Lisa Simmons continues to swing a hot bat to finish the year. The senior has five multi-hit games in her last six starts despite entering today's game with a .250 average.
  • Jenna Marston took her team-leading 37th and 38th walks of the year. She is now second in school history for single-season free passes, just five off the school record set by Jen Bruck (43) in 2008.
  • Ashley Fleming drew a sixth-inning walk to drive in a run. It was her 58th RBI, which is currently fifth on Mizzou's single-season list. She is just six RBI off the school record pace set by Mary Babb in 1995.
