Game Three Notes
#3 DePaul (41-13) 2, #1 Missouri (47-8) 1
May 21, 2011 – Columbia Regional Game 3
DePaul Game Notes
- DePaul earned a 2-1 victory over Missouri to snap the Tigers' nine-game home postseason winning streak.
- Alex Morocco scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning following a groundout to short. The run scored was her 38th of the season, tops on the team.
- Brittany Yniguez drove in the game's first run with a second-inning single. It was a bonus offensively for the defensive-minded shortstop, as it was just her eighth RBI of the year.
- DePaul has earned both of its wins in the Columbia Regional by a 2-1 margin. The Blue Demons defeated Indiana 2-1 as well.
- DePaul improved to 41-13 on the year and has won 21 of its last 23 games overall. The Blue Demons also improved to 2-2 vs. ranked foes on the year.
- Blue Demon Head Coach Eugene Lenti won his 1,102nd career game. That incredible win total has spanned a 30-year career.
- DePaul will play for the Columbia Regional title on Sunday at 1 p.m.
- DePaul improved to 5-2 in extra-inning games and the 11-inning affair was the team's longest game of 2011.
Missouri Game Notes
- Missouri is hosting NCAA Regional action for the third consecutive season, but will be forced to battle back through the consolation side of the bracket following its extra-inning loss to DePaul.
- Missouri fell to 2-1 in extra-inning games.
- The 11-inning decision equaled Missouri's longest contest of the season. The Tigers defeated Oklahoma 1-0 in 11 innings on April 17.
- Missouri fell to 7-1 the last two-plus years in regional games. In postseason home games overall (including Super Regional play in 2010), the Tigers are 10-1.
- Missouri fell to 39-3 when holding an opponent to two runs or fewer. Those 39 wins are second nationally behind Louisiana-Lafayette, who has 41 victories.
- Chelsea Thomas added to her single-season strikeout record with 11 K's vs. DePaul. She entered the game with 323 strikeouts and now has 334 this year.
- DePaul scored its first run in the second inning after the sixth, seventh and eighth hitters recorded three consecutive singles. Following those hits Thomas retired 15 consecutive Blue Demon batters until a two-out hit in the seventh.
- Catherine Lee came up huge once again for Mizzou in postseason play. Last year Lee doubled to center to help the Tigers defeat Creighton in the opening round of the 2010 Columbia Regional and against DePaul she uncorked a home run to left field in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Lee's homer was her seventh of 2011 and the 35th of her career.
- Missouri has now hit three homers in the 2011 Columbia Regional and 61 total for the season. The Tigers need four more to move into second place all-time. The 2005 club hit a school record 82 homers.
- Abby Vock drew her team-leading 10th hit-by-pitch this season. She “wore” a change-up to reach base in the fifth inning.
- Jenna Marston drew her 36th walk of the season. She is second on Missouri's single-season list, seven behind school record holder Jen Bruck who had 43 in 2008.
