Tigers Take on Minnesota

March 1, 2011

The University of Missouri soccer team takes on the Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo., as part of what is becoming an annual spring matchup. Head coach Bryan Blitz will get his first look at his spring squad while facing his former assistant and now Minnesota head coach Mikki Denney Wright. The match is at Swope Park Training Center, the training facility for Sporting Kansas City, a professional MLS team.

"I always look forward to seeing and competing against Mikki," head coach Bryan Blitz said. "She was a phenomenal coach and recruiter for the three years she was here at Mizzou and, not surprisingly, has taken the Minnesota program extremely far in her time there."

The Tigers will showcase two off-season transfers from Georgia Perimeter Junior College and Missouri State. Freshman Brooke Williams and sophomore Taiwo Adeshigbin will make their premiere in a Tiger uniform, each filling attacking roles on the front line.

Minnesota advanced the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament last year, knocking off the Big 12 leader Texas A&M and Creighton.
