Austin, Tex.-- In their third day of competition, the Tigers qualified 17 for 'A' finals, held tonight at 6:00 pm. Amanda Masters set a new Missouri record in the 100 breast, and 17 more Missouri swimmers qualified for 'B' finals.
In the first event of the day, the women's 400 IM, two Tigers qualified for tonight's 'B' final. Anastasia Sotiropoulos placed 11th, finishing in 4:25.67, and Melissa Jamerson placed 14th, swimming in 4:28.13.
On the men's side, Yaniv Shnaider led Missouri with his seventh place finish (3:55.49), and will compete in the 'A' finals tonight. Both Colin Livasy (10th, 4:02.31) and Vito Cammisano (11th, 4:10.29) will participate in tonight's 'B' final.
In the women's 100 fly, Cassie Cunningham was the top qualifier for the Tigers, finishing in 9th place and taking the top spot in the 'B' finals with a time of 54.20. Caitlin Connor (12th, 55.35) and Lexi Spivak (13th, 55.38) also qualified for the 'B' final, while Melissa Jamerson (18th, 56.03) will swim in the 'C' final.
Anders Melin will participate in tonight's 100 fly 'A' men's finals, placing fourth in prelims with a 47.55. David Dorak will join him after placing seventh in 48.93, and so will Scott Martin, who finished eighth in 49.36. Ryan Sellers (10th, 49.85), Jason King (11th, 50.09), and Mark Waugh (13th, 51.06) will compete in the 'B' finals.
Missouri qualified two more for 'A' finals in the women's 200 free, as Stephanie Rovig placed sixth with a personal best time of 1:48.06 and Francie Szostak finished seventh in 1:48.55.
In the men's 200 free, Ethan Rose (10th, 1:40.76) and Spenser Lauver (11th, 1:39.85) qualified for 'B' finals.
Winning her heat of the 100 breast, Amanda Masters finished third overall in 1:01.30. Her time is not only a personal best, but also a new Missouri record. Also qualifying for the 'A' finals were Morgan McCleery, who finished sixth in 1:02.61, and Emy DiBenigno, who finished eighth in 1:02.82. Rachel Ripley (11th, 1:03.26) and Lisa Nathanson (16th, 1:05.05) qualified for 'B' finals.
In the men's 100 breast, two more Tigers qualified for 'A' finals: Mark Conroy, placing seventh in 55.40, and Jowan Qupty, placing eighth in 55.47. Michael Lopresti (9th, 56.15) and Colin Livasy (10th, 58.90) both qualify for 'B' finals.
In the final event of the day, the 100 back, both Cassie Cunningham and Dominique Bouchard qualified for the 'A' finals. Cunningham placed fourth in 53.45, while Bouchard finished sixth in 53.54. Lauren Lavigna also qualified for the 'B' finals, finishing 12th in 54.72.
In the men's 100 back, Roko Simunic finished third in 48.32, John Higgins placed fourth in 48.46, Anders Melin finished fifth in 48.56, and Ryan Sellers placed sixth in 48.88. Simunic, Higgins, and Sellers will participate in the 'A' finals tonight.
The Tigers will resume finals competition at 6:00 pm tonight.
