Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf opens its spring campaign on Monday at the 54-hole Snowman Invitational hosted by Washington State University in Chandler, Ariz. The Tigers are one of 15 programs competing in this spring-opening event, which will see the club face several teams from the Northwest, including the host Cougars.
The 2011 Snowman Invitational will be held at par-72, 7,128-yard Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler. The event begins Monday with a shotgun start and 36 holes before concluding on Tuesday with an 18-hole finale.
The 15-team tournament field includes: Missouri, Bradley, British Columbia, Gonzaga, Idaho, UMKC, Northern Colorado, Northern Illinois, Portland, St. John's, Seattle, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Utah State and Washington State.
Traveling to Arizona for Head Coach Mark Leroux's club will be Will Harrold, Stuart Ballingall, Emilio Cuartero, Nick Wilson and Adam Rosenthal. Playing as an individual for Missouri is Will Nixon.
"Our guys are certainly looking forward to getting out there and competing," Leroux said. "Obviously we have had a great deal of weather here in Missouri and that will have an impact, but our guys are ready to get playing and this is a great event to begin our spring season."
Washington State is the defending champion.
