COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field program will continue its indoor season this weekend as it is headed back to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic, which will be held on Friday (Feb. 11) and Saturday (Feb. 12). Action will begin Friday at noon with the women's weight throw and will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put. The meet, which is one of the largest indoor meets in the nation, will feature teams from Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State, among others, as each Big 12 team will look to improve its marks heading into the Big 12 Championships later this month. Coverage of the meet can be found at flotrack.com.

Mizzou is coming off of another great weekend of competition at last week's Husker Invitational as the team looks to be peaking heading into the championship portion of the schedule. Mizzou's Lars Rise (Trondheim, Norway), Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.) and Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) continue to rank in the national top 25 in their respective events while several other Tigers will look to join that contingent this weekend.

After a week of rest, many of the Tigers' middle-distance and distance runners will be back in action this weekend, most notably on the men's side, which took the week off last weekend. Both Blake Irwin (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Aaron Dixon (Lee's Summit, Mo.) - who are both NCAA qualifiers in the 800m run - will look to put up impressive marks this weekend among some of the nation's and league's top middle-distance runners. Also, look for both Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) and Layne Moore (Emporia, Kan.) to improve their standing headed into the Big 12 Championships. Moore claimed the Big 12 title in the 1,000m run a year ago on the same track while Roxberg - an All-Big 12 honoree in the 1,000m run last season - will look to continue her breakout season on a track in which she has seen plenty of success.

Also, the Tiger throwers will be put up against some good competition this weekend, but after an impressive meet last weekend, the group appears to be up to the challenge. In fact, Peoples looks primed to put together one of the best freshman seasons in program history as she set the school's freshman record in the shot put last weekend as she now ranks 20th nationally in the event. She is also the No. 2 true freshman on the national descending order list. She is not the only underclassmen in the women's throw corps that has excelled as both sophomore Katie Evans (Powersville, Mo.) and freshman Jill Rushin (Jackson, Mo.) give the Tigers a lot to look forward to.

On the men's side, senior Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.) will look to improve his standing in the weight throw as he currently is the league's second-ranked thrower. Women's high jump will also be an event to watch as Mizzou boasts a pair of jumpers ranked in the Big 12's top 10 in Stacy Swineburg (third) and Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.).
