Rise Fourth in Heptathlon After Day One

AMES, Iowa - Mizzou combined event All-American Lars Rise (Trondheim, Norway) currently sits in fourth place after day one of competition at the Bill Bergan Combined Events, hosted by Iowa State on Thursday (Jan. 27). Rise totaled 3,082 total points on the day and he sits just 104 points back of Minnesota's Joey Schwecke, who leads the competition with 3,186 points.

Rise's best event on the day was the shot put, an event in which he claimed the title after tossing 15.71m (51-6 ½). He was the only of the nine competitors to register a throw better than 14.00m (45-11 ¼) as he earned 833 points in the event. Rise also had a nice day in the long jump as he measured in at 6.88m (22-7), earning him 783 points for his second-best point total of the day.

Rise also earned 752 points in the 60m dash after clocking in at 7.38 and he closed his day by earning 714 points in the high jump after clearing 1.90m (6-2 ¾). Former Tiger and current volunteer assistant coach Nick Adcock also competed in the meet and sits fifth overall with 2,961 points. Adcock won this event as a senior a season ago.

The Bill Bergan Combined Events will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. The final three heptathlon events - 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m run - will be contested tomorrow along with all five of the women's pentathlon events. Sophomore Kelcy Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) will compete in the pentathlon for Mizzou tomorrow.
