Columbia, Mo. -- Mizzou Tennis had impressive first home duals against Southeast Missouri and UMKC Jan. 23rd. Coaches Steven Stuckenschneider and Helena Besovic led the Tigers as they swept both teams.
Seniors Mallory Weber and Kaitlyn Ritchie have had remarkable matches this season and continued to prove their talent this past weekend. Freshman Rachel Stuhlmann is one to continue to watch as she played well in doubles against both teams with partner Annemijn Koenen and conquered her singles matches.
In doubles, Weber and Ritchie defeated SEMO's Nikole Novikova and Elizabeth Nyenwe 8-1, while Stuhlmann and Koenen succeeded 8-0 in their match. Partners Jamie Mera and Maria Christensen also overcame their opponents 8-0.
The Tigers continued to dominate going into singles. Ritchie defeated Novikova in the number one spot, 6-0, 6-1. Weber beat Nyenwe, 6-2, 6-0 while Maria Christensen defeated Hartley, 6-0-6-0. Impressively, Mera along with Stuhlmann and Koenen won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Mahdi Besovic completed her match against SEMO's Sarah Pettigrew, 6-1, 6-0.
Missouri continued play later Sunday vs. UMKC. Weber and Ritchie continued their doubles winning streak when facing UMKC's Eva Dalvai and Chelsea Horner winning, 8-1. Mizzou's Mera and Christensen and teammates Stuhlmann and Koenen defeated their opponents 8-2 apiece.
Singles also proved to be successful as Ritchie beat Dalvai 6-1, 6-1. Weber pulled off a win as well going 6-3, 6-1 against Bouet. Christensen defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Mera overcame Suzan Lisenby 6-1, 6-0. Besovic won her match 6-1, 6-1. All the while, Stuhlmann and Koenen finished off their matches 6-0, 6-0.
Missouri will look to continue its strong spring play as it hosts Denver in its next home action on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
