Tigers in the National Rankings

Jan. 18, 2011

COLUMBIA, Mo. - After another successful outing at the MU-KU Border Dual last Friday, the Mizzou track and field program continues to be represented in the national top 25 rankings in six different events. Also, a pair of Tigers - Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) and Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.) - rank as the top athlete in their respective events in the Big 12 so far this season.

Hancock, a two-time All-American in the pole vault, highlights the Tigers in the national rankings as he checks in at eighth overall in the pole vault after clearing 5.20m (17-0 ¾) in the season-opening Missouri Invitational. He is currently tied with Virginia Tech's Joe Davis for eighth in the event and sits less than five inches back of second place nationally.

Although Hancock boasts the highest national ranking of any Tiger, freshman sprinter Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is the only Tiger to rank in the top 25 nationally in two different events. Chambers ranks 20th in the 60m dash with his time of 6.74, set at the Missouri Invitational to open the season. That time also ranks him second in program history. Aside from his performance in the 60m dash, Chambers also sits 25th nationally in the 200m dash after clocking in at 21.58 last weekend at the MU-KU Border Dual. That time ranks him fourth on the all-time Mizzou indoor 200m list as well.

Sophomore shot putter Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) also sits in the top 25, checking in at 21st in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.66m (57-11 ¼), which he set at the season-opening Missouri Invitational

Senior high jumper Stacy Swineburg (Camdenton, Mo.) highlights the Tiger women in the national rankings, boasting a No. 14 national rank in the high jump. Her mark of 1.75m (5-8 ¾) at the Missouri Invitational was a massive personal-best mark and has her ranked second in the Big 12 at this point of the season.

Roxberg, who is currently leading the Big 12 in the women's 1,000m run after clocking a time of 2:52.35 at the MU-KU Border Dual, ranks in the national top 25 in the mile run as well. Roxberg won the mile run at the Missouri Invitational with a time of 4:51.94, ranking her just outside the all-time Mizzou top 10 in the event. Roxberg has competed in three races this season and has won all three, highlighted by her double win at the MU-KU Border Dual where she took home the mile and 1,000m run titles.
