COLUMBIA, Mo. - After a successful weekend at the season-opening Missouri Invitational, the Mizzou track and field team saw plenty of its members ranked among the national elite as the updated event-by-event rankings were made public on Monday (Jan. 10). In all, 15 Tigers rank in the top 25 while 11 Tigers lead the Big 12 in their respective events through the first weekend of action. Below is a breakdown of where the Tigers fall, individually.

Starting with the national rankings, a trio of Tigers rank in the top five in their respective events after last weekend, highlighted by senior Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.), who ranks second nationally in the pole vault after clearing 5.20m (17-0 ¾). Only Akron's Michael Uhle ranks ahead of Hancock through week one.

A pair of Tiger women, led by sophomore Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.), also rank in the top five nationally. Roxberg posted the nation's third-best mile time last weekend after clocking in at 4:51.94. The other Tiger woman to rank in the top five is junior high jumper Stacy Swineburg (Camdenton, Mo.), who is the nation's fifth-ranked jumper after clearing 1.75m (5-8 ¾), nearly a four-inch improvement from her previous personal-best. All three are ranked tops in the Big 12 as well.

Aside from those three, Mizzou is also well represented in the sprints on the men's side by standout freshman Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who ranks seventh nationally in the 60m dash and 12th nationally in the 200m dash with times of 6.74 and 21.65, respectively. Chambers' time in the 60m dash is the second-best in program history and is just 0.04 seconds off of the school record, which was set by Carlos Posey in 1999. His time in the 200m dash also ranks him first in the Big 12 this season as well. That mark is the fifth-best indoor mark in program history.

Sophomore shot putter Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) is the next-best ranked Tiger in the national rankings after winning the shot put at the Missouri Invitational. His event-winning throw of 17.66m (57-11 ¼) ranks him ninth nationally and tops in the Big 12. Not far behind him is fellow shot putter Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.), who comes in at 13th nationally after throwing 17.46m (57-3 ½). On the women's side, freshman shot putter Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) ranks 17th nationally after tossing 14.72m (48-3 ½) in her first collegiate meet last Friday.

Senior transfer Mark Hughes (Center, Mo.) is ranked 11th nationally in the 400m dash after clocking in at 48.42 last weekend, a mark that also ranks atop the Big 12. Freshman Tim Williams (Waynesville, Mo.) is another Tiger newcomer to boast a national ranking as he sits 11th on the national list in the high jump after winning the event with a clearance of 2.09m (6-10 ¼) at the Missouri Invitational. The women's team also has a freshman high jumper represented in the top 25 nationally as Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) is ranked 12th after leaping 1.70m (5-7) in her first collegiate meet last weekend.

The remaining Tigers ranked in the top 25 are Kinsey Farren (13th, 3,000m run), Tucker Bounds (20th, long jump), Shawnte' Middlebrook (23rd, triple jump) and Lana Mims (25th, 400m dash) along with the men's 4x400m relay team, which sits 24th nationally with a time of 3:17.25. Of those four, Farren and Bounds are ranked first in the Big 12 in their respective events as well.

Rounding out the Big 12 leaders for the Tigers are Max Storms (mile, 4:20.36), Eric Dillon (3,000m, 8:48.00) and Jeremy Lampley (triple jump, 14.20m (46-7 ¼).
