Evanston, Ill.- The Tigers finished up their five-game road trip with a 1-1 draw against Northwestern. Senior captain Alysha Bonnick scored in the 9th minute to put the Tigers on the board, but Northwestern countered in the 55th minute with a goal of its own. Despite several good chances late in regulation and overtime Missouri couldn't convert, pushing its record to 0-3-2.
"I couldn't be more proud of the way our girls fought today and on this road trip," head coach Bryan Blitz said. "A lot of teams are able to absorb pressure from a visiting team but we were able to apply enough that we made our presence known. We learned a lot on this five-game road time and grew as a team. It will be nice to go back home for four weeks."
The Tigers best chance in overtime came in the 104th minute when Kendra Collins broke behind the defense. The Northwestern goalkeeper charged and partially cleared the ball. With the keeper still off her line, Collins regained possession and fired a shot from 25 yards out. The ball sailed towards the upper corner but was barely headed off the line by a Northwestern defender.
Missouri's goal came in the ninth minute when senior Krista Kruse played a slotted ball to the right flank for Kendra Collins. The junior took to the touch line and played a low cross to Bonnick, who blasted it over the keeper from point-blank range. The goal is Bonnick's team-leading third goal of the season.
In the 48th minute, the Tigers nearly converted off a corner kick. Junior Haley Krentz settled the ball at the penalty spot off of a blocked shot. She collected and ripped a shot towards the lower left corner of the goal. Northwestern goal keeper Carolyn Edwards made a stellar save to her left to keep the score 1-0.
Eight minutes later, Northwestern countered off of a Missouri attack. Wildcat Caroline Dagley ran onto a bouncing ball at the top of the box and one-timed a shot into the upper corner to knot the game at 1-1.
In the 81st minute, Mizzou goalkeeper Jessica Gwin made a diving save to her left off of a Northwestern header from eight yards out to keep the score level.
The Tigers return home to prepare for a string of six home games, starting Friday against Arkansas. Fans can follow all the action right here at mutigers.com and on the team's social media sites.
