Oregon Head Coach Mike White
Opening Statement
“First off I want to say thank you to Missouri for hosting, they were great hosts to our team. It was a tough game and it came down to execution. Missouri made the most of their chances and capitalized on our mistakes. It's a tough way to lose, and the pitchers didn't hit their corners that we needed to be consistent. Missouri did a great job of taking the opportunities that were given to them and they were the better team today.”
On not capitalizing on the opportunities
“I felt pretty good, and if you look at it, this game comes down to a little bit of luck and breaks. In that same first inning, we had a line drive to the second baseman that would have gone to the wall for a triple, and then you get a runner on with one out and we have a tied game. You make your own breaks in this game. What we failed to do was capitalize on the innings after that. We didn't put the pressure back on the pitcher and had too many easy outs. With Missouri playing deep like that, we couldn't catch up to them and they did a great job playing the deep ball.”
Oregon Player Carlyn Re
On whether they felt defeated going into the last inning
“I think what im most proud about the team is that we didn't give up all year. If we were down in the seventh inning I knew we would make a comeback. Ive always been taught that if you have one strike left, we still have life. I fully believe in our team, it didn't matter what happened we stood behind our pitchers the entire game. We just didn't pull this one out.”
Oregon Player Allie Burger
On Oregon's attitude going into the last at bat
“We were only down a little bit, and our team comes back so much. We have so much fight, and we were always racing to get from the field to the batters box. We don't get down on one inning because we know we can come back. That seventh inning we were still fighting, getting people on base and in scoring position. That's just the type of team we are.”
Missouri Head Coach Ehren Earlywine
Opening Statement
“I'm just really proud of the girls, we just had a fantastic day and swinging the bats a lot better than we did yesterday. We gave Kristin a little bit of room although she didn't need it because she pitched very well today and yesterday. She didn't have outstanding velocity, but she found a way to get outs. Offensively we carried some big bats today and got some big hits. Our hitters got us off the hook and Nottlemann kept them right where they were at. I know for a long time, a lot of people have counted us out, and I think everybody had their doubts about this team. That's always a fun story when people can overcome the odds like that.”
On facing Oregon's deep pitching staff
“On days when we don't hit well, we pitch well and vice versa. We pick each other up a lot of times, today was the hitting performance we haven't seen from this team in a while. A lot of doubles and Nicole's bomb, and solid hits on a solid Oregon pitcher. Oregon has a deep pitching staff, and if you look at their stats they have more strikes than innings, and it's just a testament to our hitters. Our hitters were doing everything they could to get the bat on the ball.”
Missouri Third Baseman Nicole Hudson
On finding her stride late in the season
“I feel like this season has been a big learning experience. I started off slow and now I feel comfortable with my swing for the first time in a long time. Everything is starting to click at the right time.”
Missouri Pitcher Kristin Nottlemann
On Nicole's big day
“As soon as she (Hudson) came around, I gave her a high five and said thank you. I needed a little more run support and she gave that to me and started that big rally that gave me some breathing room.”
