COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Mizzou recorded its seventh-straight victory over Nebraska by taking a 12-7 win on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. Missouri will look to sweep the Cornhuskers for the third consecutive season at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The game time for Sunday's series finale has been moved up from its originally scheduled time due to the forecast of inclement weather Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers took advantage of 12 walks, four hit batters, five wild pitches, one passed ball and three errors by Nebraska. Junior Michael Liberto and sophomore Ryan Gebhart each drew three walks in the game. Junior Jonah Schmidt was hit by a pitch twice on Saturday. He also had a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to a career-long eight games.
The first three batters in the bottom of the first inning reached safely for Missouri and all would score as the Tigers took an early 3-0 lead. After Nebraska put a pair of runs on the board in the second inning, the Tigers scored five times in the third to extend their lead to 8-2.
Mizzou sent 10 batters to the plate in its half of the third inning, getting four hits, four walks and a hit batter. Included in the four hits was an RBI single by sophomore Conner Mach and a two-run base hit by junior Jesse Santo.
Nebraska cut the lead to three at 8-5 by putting together a three-run top of the fifth inning. Mizzou answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to push its lead back to four. The Tigers then scored three times in the seventh inning with the runs scoring on a passed ball and two wild pitches.
The Huskers tried to make it interesting as they scored twice in the ninth and had the bases loaded when the final out was recorded as junior Kevin Mahler struck out Josh Scheffert.
