Columbia, Mo. -
The Mizzou Football squad got its 2010 spring camp opened up Tuesday afternoon inside the Dan Devine Pavilion. With rainy conditions outside, Coach Gary Pinkel put his team through the paces of a workout which lasted close to 2 1/2 hours. Due to NCAA rules, the first two workouts in spring ball are without pads, so the scrimmaging Tuesday was limited.
Even so, Pinkel said he was pleased with what he saw overall. "It was a good day, there was some good work done. For me, the big thing I saw was a lot of enthusiasm, and we're really focusing our guys to bring that every single day because enthusiasm drives everything. It was a good first day," he said.
The team looks to be in good overall health, although junior DT Terrell Resonno left practice early after he suffered a patellar tendon injury in his right leg in a non-contact drill. The extent of his injury wasn't known immediately, and his status is currently unknown. Resonno's absence left the defensive tackle position without three of the top four players at the two positions, as 2009 starter Dominique Hamilton sat out practice due to an injured hamstring he suffered in conditioning drills last week. Hamilton isn't expected to miss much time in the spring, but he is being held out of action as a precautionary measure. The third tackle currently out is redshirt freshman Marvin Foster, who will have to miss the entire spring season after rupturing his left pectoral muscle last week while lifting weights. Foster was expected to work his way into the playing rotation significantly this spring, but he'll have a chance to earn that playing time in the fall, because he is expected to be fully healthy come fall.
Other Tigers unable to practice Tuesday included starting LT Elvis Fisher (off-season shoulder surgery) and junior TE Andrew Jones (off-season shoulder surgery).
The team will hold an afternoon practice on Thursday, followed by a Saturday morning workout, which will be the first one in full pads. All spring workouts will lead up to the annual Black & Gold Spring Game, which is set for Saturday, April 17th at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field.
