COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou women's swimming and diving teams maintained its lead in day two the Mizzou Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 4. Missouri enters Sunday action with 872 points. Boise State sits in second with 613 points, followed by Nebraska (460), Drury (355), Truman State (180) and Colorado State (29).
The women's relay teams started off the meet creating high expectations for the rest of the night. All three teams beat their seed times from earlier prelims. In the 200 medley relay, Missouri's team of Cassie Cunningham, Rachel Ripley, Lexi Spivak and Lisa Nathanson won the event with a time of 1:40.33, demolishing their prelim time of 1:46.51.
Following the women's winning ways, the men's 200 medley relay squad of Roko Simunic, Mark Conroy, Anders Melin and Jordan Hawley also earned a first-place win, with a time of 1:27.01.
The Tigers had second and third finishes in the women's 200 free. Stephanie Rovig had a time of 1:48.51 for second and Francie Szostak followed for third with a time 1:49.28.
Next up for the Tigers was the women's 100 breast, where Mizzou managed to sweep the top three finishes. Amanda Masters took first with a meet record 1:02.36. Just behind her with a time of 1:02.54 was Ripley in second place, and Morgan McCleery in third with a time of 1:02.82.
Also winning all three top places in the women's 100 back were Dominique Bouchard, Lauren Lavigna and Cunningham. Bouchard set a meet record and took first with a time of 53.36 and Lauren Lavinga and Cunningham swam the event in 53.36 and 53.69 for second and third, respectively.
The women's 800 free relay team of Lavigna, Rovig, Bouchard and Szostak placed first out of the 12 relay teams with a time of 7:14.36.
Missouri also took the top three spots in the women's 3 meter diving competition. Jordan Morcom claimed first place with 342.20 points, a score that stands second all-time in the Missouri recordbooks. She was followed by Loren Figueroa, who came in second with 332. 70, and Christina Gailey, who placed third with 292.40.
