The No. 16 Missouri wrestling team, winners of three straight and four of their last five, head to West Lafayette, Ind., for a dual meet against No. 21 Purdue.  Action gets started at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Scouting Purdue
Purdue enters the weekend ranked No. 21 by the NWCA/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll, and currently sits at 2-0-1 on the season.  The Boilermakers opened the season at the Edinboro Duals, going 1-0-1 on the day.  Purdue started with a 28-6 victory over Hofstra before fighting to a 16-16 draw with Edinboro.  Two weeks later, they shutout Calumet College of St. Joseph by a 39-0 score.  Last weekend, the Boilermakers finished eighth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.  Now in his fourth season as head coach, Purdue is led by Scott Hinkel.

The Boilermakers' lineup features six wrestlers who are ranked in one of the four major polls.  Leading the way is 197 pounder Logan Brown, who ranks as high as No. 7 and is 9-1 on the year.  184 pounder A.J. Kissel is ranked 10th with an 11-2 record, and 157 pounder Colton Salazar (7-2) and 174 pounder Luke Manuel (5-3) each rank as high as 15th.  Also in the rankings are 125 pounder Camden Eppert, who is 5-4 on the season and ranks in at No. 30 by Wrestling Report, and 149 pounder Sam Patacsil, who is 7-5 and ranks 32nd according to Wrestling Report.

This will mark the 21st time these two teams have faced off, with Purdue holding the edge at 12-7-1.  The Tigers hope to avenge last season's loss to the Boilermakers, when they upended Mizzou 19-15 in Columbia.

What's Next

The Tigers head back to Indiana next weekend, though this time they're heading to Bloomington for a pair of duals.  Missouri will take on Indiana and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. CT.

Waters Stays Perfect
When Alan Waters came to Mizzou, people knew the Tigers were going to finally have that top grappler at the 125 pound mark that they've longed for.  However, no one probably expected the true freshman to have this big of an impact this early.  The four-time state champion has put together a 19-0 record in his first month of collegiate action, as he's won all nine dual matches he's wrestled in while capturing two tournament titles, winning at the Lindenwood Open and the Central Missouri Open.  Three weekends ago he defeated No. 21 Steve Bonanno of Hofstra by a 2-1 decision and No. 10 Jason Lara of Oregon State by a 3-2 score.  Two weeks ago, at the Northeast Duals, Waters had a perfect 4-0 day, scoring four decisions to improve to 18-0 overall and 8-0 in duals.  Last weekend, he had his biggest challenge yet, going up against No. 5 Nic Bedelyon of Kent State.  A two-point nearfall in the second period helped secure a 3-1 victory for Waters, his 19th win of the season.  After starting the season unranked, Waters is now up to as high as No. 7 in the country in the major polls.

Mizzou Outlasts Kent State, 19-15
The No. 16 Missouri Tigers wrestling team (6-3) pulled out a big 19-15 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sunday afternoon at the Hearnes Center.  The Tigers were able to win four of the last five matches on the day to secure the win, the team's third in a row.

Freshman Alan Waters knocked off No. 5 Nic Bedelyon by a 3-1 decision to open the day at 125 pounds.  From there, the Tigers got a major decision by 141 pounder Todd Schavrien, and three straight decision from Zach Toal at 165, Dorian Henderson at 174 and Mike Larson at 184.  With a one-point lead going into the final match, Mizzou's Dom Bradley, ranked No. 5 in the country, edged out No. 12 Brendan Barlow in overtime.

After a slow first period, Bradley started down in the second and immediately escaped.  He then took Barlow down 20 seconds later, though Barlow would work an escape before the period ended as Bradley led 3-1 heading to the third.  Barlow escaped to start the third, cutting the lead to 3-2.  With under 10 seconds left in the match, Barlow took shot in on a single on Bradley, and as Bradley attempted to escape the hold, he ran out of bounds and was hit for a fleeing-the-mat penalty with just seconds left, tying the match and sending it to sudden death overtime.  Bradley kept his composure, though, and scored a takedown just as overtime was about to end, giving him the 5-3 win and securing the 19-15 victory for Mizzou.
